Launched in 2010, Udemy has transformed the way people learn by offering flexible, affordable, and comprehensive educational opportunities to millions globally. Whether you are a professional looking to upskill, a student aiming to enhance your knowledge, or a hobbyist pursuing a new interest, Udemy offers a unique and personalized learning experience.
Tumblr media
What is Udemy?
Udemy is an online marketplace for learning and teaching. It allows instructors to create and publish courses in their areas of expertise and enables learners to access these courses on-demand. The platform spans over 250,000 courses across a wide range of topics, including technology, business, arts, health, and personal development. With over 73 million learners, 64,000 instructors, and availability in more than 75 languages, Udemy is truly a global learning hub.
The courses on Udemy are user-generated, which means anyone with expertise in a subject can create and sell courses. This democratization of education enables instructors to monetize their skills while providing students with diverse learning options. From coding and graphic design to yoga and cooking, Udemy caters to a wide variety of interests and professional needs.
Features of Udemy
Udemy’s success lies in its robust set of features that make learning and teaching both accessible and effective. Below, we discuss some of its most notable features:
1. Vast Course Library
Udemy boasts one of the largest collections of online courses available. With over 250,000 courses spanning categories such as business, technology, personal development, and lifestyle, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced learner, Udemy offers courses tailored to various skill levels.
The platform also stays updated with emerging trends, ensuring learners have access to courses in fields like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and digital marketing.
2. Affordable Pricing
One of Udemy’s standout features is its affordability. Unlike traditional education platforms that charge high fees, Udemy courses are often priced between $10 and $100, with frequent discounts and promotions bringing the cost down further. This affordability democratizes learning, making high-quality education accessible to a global audience.
3. Lifetime Access
A unique feature of Udemy is that learners receive lifetime access to the courses they purchase. This means you can revisit the material as often as needed, even after completing the course. This feature is particularly beneficial for complex subjects, where learners may need to review concepts multiple times.
4. Self-Paced Learning
Udemy allows learners to progress at their own pace. There are no strict deadlines or schedules, making it ideal for busy professionals or students who need flexibility. Whether you have a few hours a day or just 20 minutes during lunch breaks, you can tailor your learning schedule to suit your availability.
5. Wide Range of Formats
Courses on Udemy include a mix of video lectures, quizzes, assignments, and supplemental resources such as downloadable PDFs or slides. This variety of formats caters to different learning styles, ensuring that visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners can benefit from the platform.
6. Mobile-Friendly Platform
Udemy’s mobile app enhances accessibility by allowing learners to study on the go. Available on iOS and Android devices, the app enables offline downloads, making it easy to learn even without an internet connection. This feature is particularly useful for commuters or those in regions with limited internet access.
7. Certificates of Completion
Upon completing a course, Udemy provides a certificate of completion. While these certificates are not accredited, they can still serve as proof of learning for personal or professional purposes. For example, including a Udemy certificate on your resume or LinkedIn profile can demonstrate initiative and self-driven learning.
8. Instructor Opportunities
Udemy empowers experts by allowing them to create and sell courses. The platform provides tools for video creation, course design, and analytics to help instructors deliver high-quality content. Additionally, Udemy’s revenue-sharing model offers a lucrative opportunity for educators and professionals to monetize their skills.
9. Diverse Language Options
With courses available in over 75 languages, Udemy caters to a global audience. This multilingual support ensures that learners from different regions and linguistic backgrounds can access quality education without language barriers.
10. Udemy for Business
Udemy offers a corporate learning solution called Udemy for Business, which provides organizations with a curated selection of courses to train employees. This feature allows companies to upskill their teams, foster professional development, and address skill gaps efficiently. Businesses can track employee progress and identify areas for improvement using Udemy’s analytics.
Advantages of Udemy
Udemy’s features offer several advantages for both learners and instructors:
Flexibility: Learn anytime, anywhere, and at your own pace.
Affordability: Access quality education without breaking the bank.
Diverse Options: Explore a vast array of subjects and skill levels.
Global Reach: Courses are available worldwide in multiple languages.
Community Support: Learners can interact with instructors and fellow students through Q&A sections and forums.
How to Get the Most Out of Udemy
To maximize your learning experience on Udemy, follow these tips:
Read Reviews: Check course ratings, reviews, and instructor credentials before enrolling.
Take Advantage of Discounts: Wait for sales or promotions to purchase courses at discounted prices.
Engage Actively: Participate in quizzes, assignments, and Q&A sections to deepen your understanding.
Leverage Supplemental Resources: Download additional materials provided by instructors to enhance your learning.
Set Clear Goals: Define what you want to achieve before starting a course to stay focused and motivated.
Conclusion
Udemy has revolutionized online education by making learning accessible, flexible, and affordable for millions worldwide. Its extensive course library, user-friendly features, and inclusive approach to teaching and learning make it a standout platform for personal and professional development. Whether you’re acquiring new skills, exploring a hobby, or training your team, Udemy provides the tools and resources to help you succeed.
While it has some limitations, such as variable course quality and non-accredited certificates, the platform’s benefits far outweigh its drawbacks. By choosing the right courses and actively engaging with the material, learners can unlock immense value from Udemy and achieve their educational and career goals.

stone faced anon (💫 anon if it's free) here; as someone who has a hyperfixation in IT and coding I also think it would be very funny if Boothill had an s/o who wasn't necessarily a mechanic but like a software engineer or just a real big nerd about coding or something. He'll be experiencing a malfunction or a memory leak and go "oh yeah this happens sometimes don't worry about it" and then 10 minutes later he's sitting down plugged into a laptop listening to his s/o rant about how terrible his code is (crack hc: boothill's code was written in javascript) and how it's a wonder he hasn't bricked* yet
Would also be mad funny if Boothill ever got hacked and his s/o basically says "no you're not" and uses a previously made system restore point or something because of course they would both use and design every feature imaginable to keep Boothill in control of his own body, can you imagine the stress that losing control would cause him?? Even better if whoever designed him originally intentionally left a backdoor incase he ever went against their orders and when they try to use it his s/o just goes "oh yeah I quarantined and encrypted all the old files related to that backdoor and whatever else you were planning on a partition as bait and personally rewrote every file and function involved since your code is *an actual crime against technology*. by the way i'm going to go ahead and format that partition i mentioned, boothill- we won't be needing anything on it now that we can trace whoever made it. trust me, this won't be happening ever again."
*(bricking is a term mostly used to refer to hardware that's been rendered basically completely nonfunctional and beyond saving by using it wrong, mostly by messing with system files. Kinda like how windows can't even repair itself if you delete the system32 folder. Though i guess you could still install it with a usb stick if you formatted your pc- i digress you get what I mean. also since this almost happened to me recently: if you manage to fill up a hard drive to the brim, with literally 0 bytes of space left, that bricks it. reminder to check your storage thoroughly and often!)
Honestly wow I read it all and I'm a little bit speechless 🥹 thank you 💫 anon, it was great 🙏

Boothill would DEFINITELY appreciate a s/o who's a tech savvy in general! I think at some point, he'd be pretty shocked you're so knowledgeable and just sit there, listening to you rant.. and just letting you do your thing.
Don't get me wrong, he definitely knows a lot about his body, his system and the way he works, but once you start to get in the zone and explain stuff to him, berate his code even, he just sits next to you, plugged in to your laptop, leaning his cheek against his hand listening to you like he obviously understands everything you say.
His other hand begins to gently play with a stand of your hair, humming deeply when the soft clicking sounds of your keyboard reach his ears; he twirls your hair with his fingers and chuckles, "mmm, really now?" Boothill raises an eyebrow, "encryptin' this, encryptin' that... How about we do somethin' more fun instead?" And then you shut him down from your laptop (😭).
Jokes aside, he'd feel very secure with you especially when he first got his new body, just knowing you'll probably fix a lot of things that could possibly blow up his face in no time, maybe even improve his life even more.

Hi, I wonder how are you creating your wip? Do you write it in google docs and then code it in Twine? I'm starting making my own and I'm looking for some technical tips
Hi! Thanks so much for the ask! It's always good to see new authors starting their own IFs. This might be a bit long so I'll put everything under a read more for those of you who aren't interested.
For me personally, I write in LibreOffice, which is a free alternative to Microsoft Office/Word. But, you can definitely use Google Docs or whatever other writing program you prefer!
As for coding, you can just code in Twine, but I like to code some as I write so I don't forget when to set certain variables. If you don't want to code anything in your draft, then I'd recommend at least leaving yourself reminders at places you'd like to add variables or when you want to have skill checks or anything else of the sort.
I should mention that a lot of people dislike coding in Twine, the code isn't set apart from the text visually and can be confusing for some, so if that's the case for you, I'd recommend checking out something like Notepad++ for coding and then copy and pasting everything into Twine once you're done.
If you do use Notepad++, and you're also using SugarCube, I'd highly recommend downloading and using this to add SugarCube as a custom language to the program so your code is easier to read. (You'll be able to select it as the coding language in Notepad++ after downloading and following the directions, though you may need to exit and restart the program before it shows up in the language list).
Some other great resources I use: The Twine Cookbook (of course), SugarCube Documentation or Harlowe (if you prefer), some templates (including the one I use!) [1] [2] [3], and w3schools tutorials for basics in CSS and JavaScript (assuming you don't know how to code in them already, if you do, that's great!)
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! I'm no coding expert but I have taken a few classes on Web Dev stuff in college so I know a thing or two.
Best of luck to you on your project anon!😊

Mini React.js Tips #1 | Resources ✨
Tumblr media
I thought why not share my React.js (JavaScript library) notes I made when I was studying! I will start from the very beginning with the basics and random notes I made along the way~!
Up first is what you'll need to know to start any basic simple React (+ Vite) project~! 💻
What you'll need:
node.js installed >> click
coding editor - I love Visual Studio Code >> click
basic knowledge of how to use the Terminal
Tumblr media
What does the default React project look like?
Tumblr media
Step-by-Step Guide
[ 1 ] Create a New Folder: The new folder on your computer e.g. in Desktop, Documents, wherever that will serve as the home for your entire React project.
[ 2 ] Open in your coding editor (will be using VSCode here): Launch Visual Studio Code and navigate to the newly created folder. I normally 'right-click > show more options > Open with Code' on the folder in the File Explorer (Windows).
[ 3 ] Access the Terminal: Open the integrated terminal in your coding editor. On VSCode, it's at the very top, and click 'New Terminal' and it should pop up at the bottom of the editor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ 4 ] Create the actual React project: Type the following command to initialize a new React project using Vite, a powerful build tool:
npm create vite@latest
[ 5 ] Name Your Project: Provide a name for your project when prompted.
Tumblr media
[ 6 ] Select 'React' as the Framework: Navigate through the options using the arrow keys on your keyboard and choose 'React'.
Tumblr media
[ 7 ] Choose JavaScript Variant: Opt for the 'JavaScript' variant when prompted. This is the programming language you'll be using for your React application.
Tumblr media
[ 8 ] Navigate to Project Folder: Move into the newly created project folder using the following command:
cd [your project name]
[ 9 ] Install Dependencies: Execute the command below to install the necessary dependencies for your React project (it might take a while):
npm install
Tumblr media
[ 10 ] Run the Development Server: Start your development server with the command (the 'Local' link):
npm run dev
Tumblr media
[ 11 ] Preview Your Project: Open the link provided in your terminal in your web browser. You're now ready to witness your React project in action!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Congratulations! You've successfully created your first React default project! You can look around the project structure like the folders and files already created for you!

There is something very weird about the relatively short nature of the culture surrounding website creation. As in, like, internet-user-created websites have been around for like 30-31 years at this point, and the culture surrounding them has changed so very much.
People used to create websites left and right for their own needs, their little shops and their little blogs about what they liked. Some websites of course housing horrible content since their dawn, and some being as mundane but as unique as the person behind its code. I have seen older sites, archived, that promoted creating your own site, and that was interesting to see. That culture of creating your own website and of sharing that knowledge on a still-growing facet of communication.
And then at some point social media appeared, and that was interesting, because now everyone was able to quickly present themselves without the need of a website, but that didn't mean people stopped making websites. I mean, hell, Geocities died in 2009, so a lot of people were creating their own websites for free before that time, no need to pay for domain names or hosting. And even without Geocities, there were other website hosting things that yes, while not as customizable, were still a resource for people to work with them. There's still a website floating around that I made when I was a kid using one of these services. Cool stuff.
All this to say that I do feel a weird sense of dread looking back and cross-referencing with the present and seeing things like "website creator powered by AI" and shit like that, because just ?? How did it go plummeting so quickly. There is a weird feeling of having lost a developing culture to corporations making quick access to posting things that, as corporations' nature dictates, are used to sell data or to train models or what have you. Similarly, we get pretty same-y looking pages because of the need to be slick or whatever with designs that just leaves everything looking the same. ALSO, the loss of spaces for kids, or just the gradual lowering of them in favor of cocomelons and whatever else the devil's machine has spawned is like watching an apple decay before having ripened. I do feel like there is this phenomenon in which how to make a site has been lost in the notion of "making a website falls into the realm of evil and scary coding and I could never be a programmer, plus who would look at it, plus we have tools to make them," etc etc etc. Here is a little secret: website creation is not exactly hard to pick up at all. You might say it's very similar to using a rich text editor like Word or a notes app or whatever you use. Similarly, have you used markdown for things like messages or D iscord messages, you know, with the asterisks for bold text and the likes? Markdown is based on html's structures. And truly, you do not have to even learn to code using Javascript if you don't want to, you can just go full html + css and structure your things as you go, adding your little images and your updates. Because guess what !! Html and css are not programming languages, they're a markup language and a stylesheet language respectively, which is a fancy way to say "you make the structure of your page with the first one and make it pretty with the second one". This includes cool stuff like tables, lists, grids, colors, transitions, etc. All of that without any programming. (That being said, if you are interested in programming, Javascript isn't too bad to pick up. The language itself *is* kind of evil, but using it in conjunction with html is not too difficult). I do have to say though, I am glad that there is a push to making your own websites and things, especially with Neocities sprawling a huge community of avid website creators, as well as the huge amount of tutorials and stuff making the push forward with making sites and online spaces and experiences more widely available. Hopefully this becomes a trend that keeps going up, considering the state of seemingly every single social media that has existed since the 2000s- 2010s.
